For centuries this area has had a strong university tradition. This is where the famous university La Sorbonne was founded and it is here that the May 1968 demonstrations were held.

Here is where the Musée de Cluny can be visited : a 15th century abbey that today houses an important collection of objects and works of art from the Middle Ages.

The Panthéon was originally a neoclassic church in the shape of a Greek cross of monumental size. The 18th century church was transformed during the French Revolution into a temple dedicated to state dignitaries. Between the Ile de la Cité and the heart of the Latin Quarter is the Saint Michel area that got its name from the large fountain that represents the Saint Michel.
